Two beautiful buildings opened in 1914. The original Tutwiler Hotel, and the Ridgely Apartments. The Tutwiler would fall to the wrecking ball in 1974 and 12 years later would be resurrected in the Ridgely building.

The Tutwiler was proud to host retired Tuskegee Airmen Colonel Roosevelt Lewis and Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Carter during their visit to the Magic City on March 29, 2012.
A Major League Baseball hero came to Birmingham to support the American Baseball Foundation’s BASIC Program. As a proud sponsor of the American Baseball Foundation, the Tutwiler Hotel welcomed Andre Dawson to the Magic City on February 3, 2012.
The Historic Tutwiler Hotel brought back a special tradition: afternoon tea! The Tutwiler hosted Tuesdays at the Tutwiler February 21st through March 13th. Tea service began at 2:00 pm, followed by a guided tour with Ashley Davis, Miss Alabama 2010.
